Interested in joining a protest against Yahoo! India plagiarizing contents from bloggers?
Why this is dear to me? Just because we write and take pictures due to our passion for food and writing and give the content for free for others to cook and create, that doesn’t mean someone can take us for a ride and copy our content, especially a giant corporation like Yahoo!
Yahoo! has to apologize to the bloggers and not shamelessly remove the content from their servers.
This plagiarizing and violation of our (bloggers) rights has been going on forever. Not anymore! We need to be heard!

As dear Revathi and Shaheen suggested, I am going to fix this protest event on March 5th 2007.
What you can do,
1. First spread the word about this protest to other bloggers. It need not be food blogs only. It doesn’t matter in what language you blog, just create the post in English in your blog.
2. Create a post on March 5th 2007 about Yahoo! plagiarizing from bloggers. A short note and link to this post. Come up with catchy slogans as your post titles :-)
3. If you do not want to write-up something, you are free to copy the text from my previous posts.
Hope we will gather enough support and make this event a major success.
So spread the word my dear friends and let us all do a silent protest on March 5th 2007.

I know, we too got the same answer. But why should we care about Webdunia? The content appeared on Yahoos's domain and Yahoo's portal. So we don't have any rights to ask WebDunia.com. Thats Yahoo's job! Don't you think so?

Yahoo! at least needs to apologize for their mistake.
This is what I personally believe. Big corporations like Google and Yahoo get content from various sources. Some content is received from portals like webdunia.com.
It would have been mistake on part of Yahoo if they did not remove the content after you have complained. But the fact is that they did, and that shows Yahoo respects your opinion. They also pointed you to the right source of problem. Isnt it? So do you still think Yahoo is wrong? why?

What is not fair is we bloggers asking WebDunia since the content was not on Webdunia's. That’s not fair. How can we even ask Web Dunia? They could easily say
1) It is not on our portal
2) Show us the evidence on our portal
What would we say then? We cannot even accuse them of anything. Thats not fair to me.
Yahoo! took down the contents which clearly show their guilt. They should also say a Sorry, that’s all we are asking.
Corporations create all these laws to protect themselves whereas individuals like us do not have that luxury. So when corporations themselves commit grave mistakes like these, they ought to at least provide an apology to the bloggers.
Even if you accidentally stomp on a person's feet, you would say Sorry - wouldn’t you?
Do you think writing to an online newspaper site like rediff.com, would help spread the protest? Just a thought.

(what i meant was, if every blogger send complaints to yahoo on march 5th (repeatedly if necessary) it will slow down their servers and might force them to respond. i already sent one to yohoos 'abuse report' with bee's link in 'feed back' window )
This is outrageous! Yahoo do need to apologise. Inji, I'll be there. No matter how busy I am, I will post it on March 5th. I'm glad I saw this post today, rather than on March 6th.
And those of you who say that we should take it up with webdunia, either you don't get it or you just dont care.
Every company has a legal binding with their partners, about ownership of content or product. Yahoo is the owner of the plagiarised content. They should have apologised. What if yahoo posted some 'lifted content' from a bigshot newspaper, word by word, without giving any credit. Would the newspaper company keep quiet?Wouldn't Yahoo apologise? Wouldn't they pay bigbucks in settlement? Or would they just say - 'Oh, you know, one of our freelancers did it, you can sue him'!
Shame on yahoo!

I've been a silent spectator thus far and have been thinking about ways to be proactive about this kind of plagiarism. Perhaps and event where we all 'cite' the blogs that we got our idea from? The goal is to encourage people to visit other blogs while giving credit where credit is due... what say? Perhaps I've been working on my research paper too long!!

I am not sure what is the status now on this. However, I saw a post stating response from Yahoo. It says that, yahoo responded saying that the content was provided by webduniya.com. How does it matter to anyone from whom does yahoo get the contents for their web pages? It is like saying that - in a hotel if the biryani is bad then please go and ask the farmer who produced the rice. I dont see a connection at all.
